FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Saturday February 6th
Bangalore, Karnataka: After nearly five years of holding women’s awakening circles rooted in women-centered spirituality and feminine leadership in several cities of the United States, Rekha Govindan Kurup is hosting the First Biennial Women’s Awakening Conference in Bangalore, India Titled ‘Awakening the Shakti Woman’ at Shoonya Somatic Art and Movement Center on March 05th 2016 between 4:30 – 8:30 PM through the official launch of her company The She Stands Tall Project.
“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.” – Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype
The work of The She Stands Tall Project is deeply inspired by the works of spiritual feminists like Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Vicki Noble, Judy Grahn, Starhawk, Z Budapest, Merlin Stone, Marija Gimbutas to name a few. The Conference is a pioneer step in India to bring together women from around the world to Stand Tall with women of India in sacred circle to remember, re-member and re-claim the Sacred Feminine Power embodied in the Living bodies of Women.

The Sacred Feminine or Shakti is still visible vividly on the land of India in her many forms, shapes and energies; fully clothed, slimly clothed, naked, erotic – yet She remains disconnected from the Living bodies of her Women and Girls. The conference is an opportunity for women to come together in sisterhood circles in a way that they have never engaged before – reclaim aspects of themselves that never gets seen or spoken about; embark on the transformative journey to heal trauma; celebrate and experience collectively the embodied power of being a Woman in Body and realizing that anywhere and everywhere on the Earth the story runs the same for women.
“Bone by bone, hair by hair, Wild Woman comes back. Through night dreams, through events half understood and half remembered…” – Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run With the Wolves
The conference will bring two distinguished Shakti Women, Dr Dianne Jenett and Luisa Spagna, whose work has deeply influenced and contributed to women-centered spirituality and feminine leadership. Additionally there will be other global guests leading different embodied modalities at the conference. The conference will also host a Life-Size Body Map Art Exhibition narrating the oral-herstories of 25 women from around the world, and a sacred marketplace.
About The She Stands Tall Project: The She Stands Tall Project is an initiative whose mission is to create sacred, open and safe sisterhood containers that support the personal, relational and transpersonal exploration of the Sacred Feminine. Its vision is for women to become catalysts for transformative change within themselves, their families, their communities and the world. The intentional space of the project supports women to experience as well as co-create supportive sisterhoods in their communities, engage in questions and also, converse with each other on matters that they would otherwise never have explored on their own. The work and vision of The She Stands Tall Project is founded in the pedagogy of the Women’s Spirituality M.A program from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology based in California (USA).
